How big do you rolls think Sushichan should optimally grow? At what point do you think the quality of the boards will begin to suffer?

From what I've seen, this site averages 3-4 posts a day. I don't know the actual hitcount, but my idea I think would be to see each active thread get that many posts in a day. I think if we pass that tipping point though, we'll see a spike in people just here to shitpost, even away from /hell/.

I'm not basing this on any metrics/data, this is just a hunch from the other small chans I've frequented before. I really like the chill, friendly vibe of this place and I'm worried it'll get lost if it grows too big.

What do you think, fellow sushi rolls?

The site is pushing 63GB a month. I think it's coming to an impasse that I may have to move the web server to an actual hosting service. The site is currently served off an optic line in my house and suffices swimmingly at ~100Mbps. It also violates my ISP's contractual agreement and means my ass can get canned. I've been entertaining the idea of putting up a small donation/"tip jar" page since I'm an unemployed schmuck but I dunno.

I would still privately run the IRC server, regardless.

As far as stats, since I think everyone who visits has a right to know, we've had quite a jump from around April till now. The site currently receives ~30,000 hits a day/535 unique/2GB (as of the current 24 hours); ~900,000 hits a month/10,932 unique/63GB (as of the last 28 days). Of that, in the last 3.5 months since our switch to Vichan, we have had 1,831 posts, 382 unique posters, and host 1.63GB of content.

The top five countries (in the last 4 weeks):
United States – 455,699
Canada – 48,054
Germany – 46,981
United Kingdom – 31,580
Sweden – 30,013

I don't think there will be degradation with a user/post increase. Thus far the site has grown to this point with few hiccups, of which the hiccups were easy to displace. With an iron fist, this site will remain a comfy place.

Being a yakuza run operation, we don't just ban spammers here at Sushichan: We kill 'em. not really

I haven't been on many chans so I don't know if it's a recurring occurrence but I've seen 8ch go form cozy shitfunposting to transcending shitpost tier once it got "big". In the beginning it was pretty cool albeit slow, you could make a thread and after a day it would still be in the top half in the catalog. Now it's relatively full of people and your thread won't last an hour with the spam of interracial/cuck/shit threads.

OP here, thanks for the info Sashimi-sama, and thanks for making one of the best chans I've seen in years.

If you do end up doing a tip jar, I'd be happy to toss a couple dollarydoos your way.

Educating people about file formats will help keep the amount of data in hosted content low. I'm sick of seeing lineart/screencap JPGs, photograph PNGs, and non-animated GIFs.
